Vino & Vistas: Cala Clemence

Looking for an excuse to sip a cocktail with a picture-perfect Mediterranean background? We have just the place!

This cool new beach bar has fast become THE place to be and be seen. Just ten minutes from Javea’s main strip, holiday makers flock in droves to this stylish hang-out for its Insta-worthy setting, boho-chic décor and relaxed food and drinks menu. Start the day with a Med style breakfast and glass of fizz before hitting Portichol’ s pebble beach - literally a stone’s throw away!

Top Tip: Things can get a little crazy here during July and August, so book ahead or arrive early to grab a sea front table.

Cala Clemence, Cala del Portichol, c/Barraca, 96, Jávea, t: 966 472 189, FB: calaclemencedelportichol. Open daily 9am - 1:30am (be sure to check their Facebook page for closures due to special events and for winter opening hours)

Beach-Front Cool: Cala Bandida (Bandit Cove)

A blissful, breezy spot - think panoramic sea views, salty sea breezes, beautiful beachy décor and all-day grazing….

This Jávea jem has been going for a little over five years and has already establish itself as a firm favourite amongst locals and holiday makers alike. Nestled at the end of the Port beach, close to Javea’s fishing marina, the sunny waiting team serve up modern Med-fusion food in a laid-back beach front setting. For breakfast try their poached egg with quince jelly, seeds and saffron strands, served on wholemeal avocado toast YUM, washed down with a freshly made 100% fruit smoothie…perfection!

JH Loves: Sipping a CB cocktail on the outside deck, whilst watching the turquoise waters dancing around below.

Cala Bandida, Explanada del Puerto, 1-1, Jávea, t: 965 701 064, FB: calabandida. Open daily 9am - 12midnight

Old Favourite: Pizzeria Pepa

A bustling beach-front, family run restaurant with a great tasting Italian based menu and consistently friendly service.

This is an oldie but a goodie! Offering up traditional stone baked pizzas, freshly prepared pasta dishes and some of the best grilled meat and fish dishes around. On approach it may look overly busy and chaotic, but this is half the fun and atmosphere of the place. The eager staff are always happy to fit you in, even in the very midst of the Summer madness! Great for families, groups and couples a like.

Top Tip: Forgot to book? Don’t fret as they can usually magic you up a table within 30mins…time enough for an aperitif!

Pizzeria Pepa, Playa del Arenal, Jávea, t: 966 472 189, Open daily 1pm - 4pm, 7pm - 12midnight (closed on Wednesdays)

Glamourous Eats and Beats: La Bambula

An uber-glam new addition to the Arenal, bringing an all-day experience of food, shopping, cocktails and music

Set across two levels, this beach-front emporium blurs the lines between lazy lunches, evening sundowners and late-night dance vibes. An extensive menu offers casual French inspired dishes, tasty salads, tapas and puds, and a zingy list of cocktails to boot! Try the chargrilled octopus or ‘Pulpo a la Brasa’ or for pure decadence one of their Oyster Seafood Trays. With three bars (yes that’s three bars), live music and DJ nights….. and an on-site boutique, Bambula is a site to be seen and enjoyed.

JH Loves: The on-site Bambula Boutique, stuffed to the brim with ‘Ibicenca’ style fashion and exotic looking accessories

La Bambula, Playa del Arenal, Jávea, t: 966 470 688, w: www.labambula.es. Open daily 9am - 1:30am

Tapas with a Twist: Embruix

If you’re already in love with Jávea Old Town (you’re not alone) and fancy trying a new twist on traditional Tapas, then this little gem of a restaurant is a must!

Embruix (pronounced Embroosh) means “bewitching” in Catalan, a word that perfectly describes the lovely ambience of this restaurant. Old stone walls meet modern chandeliers and decor, and an indoor open-air patio adds further charm to the space. The tapas menu is a welcome assault on the taste buds, try ‘squid filled with black pudding’, ‘quail whiskers with soja caramel’ or our favourite ‘grilled octopus with bittersweet pepper oil’. So good! The main menu offers a hearty selection of special grilled meats, fresh fish dishes and salads that are almost too good looking to eat!

Top Tip: Save room for dessert!! Last we counted, there were 10 amazing home-made desserts to choose from!

Embruix, Carrer Mayor 15, Jávea, t: 671 610 971, w: www.embruix.es. Open daily 8am – 11pm (closed on Tuesdays)

New Tradition: Volta i Volta

Beautifully presented, modern takes on classic Mediterranean dishes…plus a fabulous setting and wine list to boot!

There is literally nothing that we don’t love about this place! Think fine dining (without the hefty price tag) in gorgeous surroundings, mouth-watering plates of food that look as good as they taste, friendly service and a carefully selected wine list that focuses on organic and eco options. Choose from the land `BBQ lamb loin with stewed skirt with wild mushrooms’, or from the sea ‘Char-gilled cuttlefish served with gnocchi, green beans and blood sausage’. Devine! The menu changes regularly, offering diners fresh seasonal produce and something new each visit.

JH Loves: The tasty four course ‘menu del día’ is as polished as the main menu and an absolute steal at under €15pp.

Volta i Volta: Calle Santa Teresa, Jávea, t: 671 610 971, Open from Thursday to Tuesday 1pm – 3pm and 8pm - 10:30pm

The Chameleon: Chabada

A brand-new facelift and expansion into the next restaurant, and yet another change of name! It seems that nothing can stop this powerhouse from being the ‘go to’ place on the Arenal beachfront.

Now a glorious mishmash of swanky décor, cool cocktails, trendy eats in the new restaurant, a killer bill of live music on selected nights, and clothes and accessories galore at its seriously cool in-house boutique. This is more like a beach-side Emporium than your average place to eat and drink, and definitely worth a look in whatever time of day you happen to be passing bye.

Top Tip: Look out for live music nights and arrive early during happy hour to grab a good ‘people watching’ table.

Chabada: Paseo Amanecer, Playa del Arenal, Jávea, t: 96 579 22 00, Open daily 9am – 1:30am
